Design based on White Oak Purse Basket by Carol Welch (Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians). The original white oak purse basket is made with walnut and bloodroot dyes. The design featured on the basket is the "peace pipe" design. This type of basket style is currently experiencing a renaissance in Cherokee communities as men and women carry these types of purse baskets in present day. This basket is currently housed in the Museum of the Cherokee People’s permanent object collection.
